Firmware Development Undergraduate Engineering Co-op
Role Summary
Eight-month undergraduate co-op with Intel Canada developing firmware and low-level software that interfaces directly with hardware (microcode, IP-specific firmware, FPGA, DSPs). Work on SoC-related design, implementation, validation and reviews alongside experienced engineers. This position is fully remote but requires the candidate to live and work from the designated Canadian province (Ontario or British Columbia). Not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities during the co-op term include:
- Develop firmware and low-level software that interfaces directly with hardware (microcode, IP firmware, FPGA, DSPs).
- Design and implement interfaces that abstract low-level hardware details for higher-level software.
- Perform design and code reviews; test and validate implementations.
- Collaborate across disciplines, communicate design decisions, and drive tasks to completion.
Requirements
Key skills and attributes required or strongly preferred.
- Proficient in C and system software.
- Strong problem-solving ability and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- General knowledge of embedded systems, digital ASIC design, and firmware/software development and testing methodologies is an asset.
- Preferred: additional experience with C++, Rust, SystemC, Python, or domain-specific language modeling.
- Preferred: understanding of processor/server/system software architecture and SoC/IP microarchitecture.
- Self-directed, collaborative, and able to take ownership across team boundaries.
Education Requirements
Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent coursework/experience. Position is an eight-month co-op beginning January 2027.
