Firmware Developer

Role Summary

Develop and optimize firmware that enables FPGA configuration and security features. Work within the US Firmware Organization in San Jose, collaborating with hardware and validation engineers on system-level firmware and integration.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically requires 5+ years of relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include delivering firmware design, implementation, testing, and validation for FPGA configuration and security features.

  • Review product and hardware specifications and produce firmware design documents.
  • Implement firmware in C and C++ for FPGA configuration and security functionality.
  • Write and maintain unit tests and system tests for firmware features.
  • Validate firmware using emulators and FPGA silicon.
  • Collaborate with hardware and validation engineers for co-engineering and joint debug of complex system-level issues.
  • Use debugging tools and techniques to diagnose and resolve firmware/hardware interactions.

Must-have

  • 5+ years of professional C/C++ programming experience implementing firmware.
  • Experience writing unit and system tests for firmware.
  • Experience validating firmware on emulators and/or FPGA silicon.
  • Strong system-level debugging skills.

Nice-to-have

  • Proficiency with assembly and hardware debugging tools.
  • Experience with RTOS and device driver development.
  • Good understanding of CPU architecture.
  • Experience with production security, cryptography, and functional safety (FuSA) compliance.

Education Requirements

BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
