Firmware Design Engineer
Role Summary
The Firmware Design Engineer will design and develop PHY-layer firmware for NVIDIA networking devices as part of the FW PHY Group. The role partners with architecture, hardware, and software teams and participates in pre-silicon emulation, silicon bring-up, and debugging.
Primary focus is on firmware algorithms, SerDes and physical linkup flows, and improving performance and reliability of next-generation products.
Experience Level
Mid-level β requires 3+ years of relevant firmware or embedded systems experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement PHY-layer firmware, algorithms, and control code for silicon.
- Develop and test firmware in emulation and simulation during pre-silicon phases.
- Enable SerDes and physical link-up flows and integrate with hardware and software stacks.
- Debug and triage HW/FW/SW issues; participate in silicon bring-up.
- Collaborate with architecture, hardware, and software teams to define requirements and improvements.
- Lead data-driven discussions on product functionality and propose areas for improvement.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 3+ years of relevant experience in embedded firmware or related fields.
- Proficient programming in C and strong embedded debugging skills.
- Experience working with interrupts and dynamic embedded environments.
- Ability to investigate and triage complex hardware/firmware/software issues.
- Strong communication skills; ability to work across distributed teams; excellent written and spoken English.
Nice-to-have:
- Proficiency in Python and MATLAB.
- Understanding of SerDes operation and physical-layer communications.
- Experience developing the physical layer of communication protocols.
- Familiarity with hardware/software development processes and collaborative engineering practices.
Education Requirements
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
