Job Title

Firmware Architect

Role Summary

Join NVIDIA's Switch Architecture Advanced Development team to build early-stage firmware proof-of-concepts and contribute to an architectural simulator for pre-silicon exploration. The role focuses on evaluating switching technologies, implementing prototype firmware, and producing technical findings that guide design decisions.

Experience Level

Entry-level (junior). The posting describes this as a junior role; no specific years-of-experience were listed.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities center on prototyping firmware and simulation to evaluate networking and switching architecture choices.

  • Implement firmware proof-of-concept code to assess switching technologies, protocols, and architectural approaches.
  • Contribute to an in-house architecture simulator for pre-silicon exploration and latency/performance modeling.
  • Collaborate with ASIC architects and firmware engineers to translate architectural decisions into working prototypes.
  • Document outcomes of proof-of-concepts and translate findings into actionable technical recommendations.
  • Identify promising technologies aligned with the networking roadmap and prototype agentic/AI frameworks for the firmware group.

Requirements

Core technical skills and the ability to work independently in an exploratory development environment.

Must-have:

  • Experience in firmware, embedded systems, or systems programming.
  • Strong coding skills with the ability to implement proof-of-concept code from scratch.
  • Ability to work independently, handle ambiguity, and convert experimental results into actionable insights.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience writing low-level firmware or C/C++ code.
  • Projects or coursework in computer architecture, simulation, or performance modeling.
  • Experience with networking protocols (Ethernet, IP, data-center fabrics).
  • Intellectual curiosity about the intersection of hardware and software in networking stacks.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science (excellent grades) as stated in the posting.
