Role Summary

Provide on-site installation, commissioning, diagnostic troubleshooting, service and repair of complex equipment and systems. Act as the primary technical liaison with customers for assigned projects, verify operational quality versus company specifications, and train customers on system operation as needed.

Role requires frequent travel to customer sites and working independently while escalating issues to sales, support, or engineering when appropriate.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Engineer I). Typically appropriate for candidates with early-career experience or those completing internal training; alternative paths with vocational certificates plus relevant experience are accepted.

Responsibilities

Accountabilities for this position include on-site technical delivery, customer interaction, and maintaining system operational standards.

• Perform on-site installation, checkout, commissioning and acceptance testing of systems against Onto specifications.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair hardware, software and networking issues during installation and subsequent service calls.
• Serve as the customer-facing technical representative; coordinate resolution with sales, customer support, and engineering as required.
• Instruct customers in system operation and provide operational handover documentation where applicable.
• Document service actions, recommend continuous improvement actions, and follow company policies and procedures.
• Work with limited supervision; perform varied and sometimes complex assignments requiring evaluation and independent decision-making.
• Travel to customer sites (more than 50% and up to 75% travel required).

Requirements

Must-have technical abilities and work expectations, plus preferred additions.

• Must-have: Significant travel availability (50–75%).
• Must-have: Proficient English communication skills.
• Must-have: Comfortable using Windows and Microsoft Office; familiarity with Linux is beneficial.
• Must-have: Hands-on use of test and troubleshooting tools (DVM/multimeter and other handheld tooling).
• Nice-to-have: Field service, operation or technical support experience with metrology tools or other semiconductor equipment.
• Nice-to-have: Prior experience in the semiconductor industry.
• Nice-to-have: Self-motivated, proactive, process-oriented, and continuously improvement-minded.

Education Requirements

B.S. in Electronics, Systems Engineering, Materials Science or Analytical Chemistry; or an undergraduate degree or vocational certificate in one of those domains plus approximately 3 years of relevant experience.
