Job Title

Field Applications Engineer (FAE)

Role Summary

Customer-facing engineering role supporting adoption of FPGA, SoC, IP, and embedded solutions. Partner with customers, sales, and product engineering to drive design-ins, accelerate time-to-market, and resolve system-level issues.

Work involves technical leadership during architecture selection, hands-on design support from RTL to board bring-up, and communicating technical tradeoffs to customers and internal teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level — typically requires 10+ years of experience in FPGA design, digital logic, embedded systems, or applications engineering.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical customer engagement, design support, and cross-functional feedback.

  • Act as the primary technical interface for customers evaluating and designing with FPGA/SoC devices, IP, and tools.
  • Assess customer architectures, recommend devices, IP blocks, and development flows.
  • Deliver technical presentations, workshops, and product demonstrations tailored to customer needs.
  • Support the full design cycle: concept, RTL development, synthesis/timing closure, power optimization, and board bring-up.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across FPGA logic, embedded processors, high-speed interfaces, memory subsystems, and power architectures.
  • Develop reference designs, application notes, and best-practice guidance to accelerate customer designs.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering and product teams to reproduce issues, validate fixes, and inform roadmap decisions.
  • Partner with sales on opportunity qualification, competitive positioning, and technical strategy; represent the company at customer meetings and industry events.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for success in this role. Preferred skills listed separately.

  • Must-have: 10+ years of experience in FPGA design, digital logic design, embedded systems, or applications engineering.
  • Must-have: Strong proficiency in RTL (Verilog/VHDL), timing analysis, synthesis, and FPGA implementation flows.
  • Must-have: Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, and Ethernet; embedded processors and board-level design experience.
  • Must-have: Excellent communication and customer-facing presentation skills; ability to travel to customer sites as needed.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with Intel/Altera Quartus, Platform Designer, and vendor IP.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with AI/ML acceleration, DSP, hardware/software co-design, and enterprise-scale deployments.
  • Nice-to-have: Strong debugging skills with logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and embedded debug tools.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
