Field Applications Engineer (FAE)
Role Summary
The Field Applications Engineer (FAE) enables customer adoption of FPGA-based solutions by providing technical sales support, architecture guidance, demonstrations, and issue resolution. The role works across sales, product, and engineering teams to grow accounts and ensure successful product integration.
Compensation is provided as a base salary plus incentive; range listed below.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires 3+ years of hardware engineering experience with FPGA, ASIC, or digital design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical engagement with customers, enabling sales, and providing feedback to product teams.
- Drive FPGA adoption at assigned customer accounts and identify new opportunities.
- Work cross-functionally with field sales, other FAEs, factory applications, product marketing, and business development.
- Develop and maintain relationships with customer engineering teams to support design wins and account growth.
- Provide architecture definition, solution evaluation, and implementation guidance using FPGAs, IP, and development tools.
- Create and deliver technical demonstrations and participate in customer design reviews and on-site visits.
- Diagnose and reproduce customer issues, escalate or resolve problems, and drive timely resolution.
- Collect and communicate customer feedback, product issues, and market trends to product and manufacturing teams.
Requirements
Core qualifications and screening criteria.
- 3+ years of hands-on hardware engineering experience in FPGA, ASIC, or digital design.
- Experience with FPGA development tools (examples: Quartus, Vivado).
- Proficiency with hardware description languages or HLS (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog, OpenCL, or HLS).
- Strong customer-facing, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to run technical demonstrations and design reviews.
- Eligible for any required U.S. export authorizations.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or technical product marketing.
- Additional industry experience such as embedded SoC design, ASIC/ASSP, CPU/microcontroller architecture, ARM-based solutions, board-level design, DSP, or signal integrity.
- Experience seeding growth in new markets or product lines.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related electrical/electronic degree is specified. Post‑bachelor’s advanced degree (e.g., MS) is listed as a way to stand out.
