Job Title

Field Applications Engineer

Role Summary

Provide field applications support for Analog Devices' power product portfolio to strategic customers, driving system-level solutions, design-ins, and customer satisfaction. Work closely with Sales, Product Lines, Technology Groups, and QA to identify opportunities, support product development, and resolve field issues. Role is based in the Bay Area (San Jose, CA) for local customer support.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” 3+ years of experience in power electronics or related roles.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Partner with Sales to provide technical field applications support to strategic and key customers and drive design-ins.
  • Support power-product solutions at the system level to optimize performance and market share.
  • Provide direct customer technical guidance, prepare characterization and validation reports, and perform on-site troubleshooting and debug.
  • Perform design and simulation work, and review schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Collaborate with Product Lines to define and develop new products addressing customer needs.
  • Collect customer technical requirements and track application-level trends.
  • Maintain relationships with product management, marketing, applications, and QA teams to resolve field issues.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Practical, hands-on experience in power electronics targeting Consumer, Mobile, Computing, Networking, or Automotive markets (3+ years).
  • Experience with programming and test automation: NI-LabVIEW, Python, or similar languages.
  • Proficiency with bench test equipment: source meters, oscilloscopes, electronic loads, power supplies, spectrum analyzers.
  • Strong knowledge of power conversion topologies and control: Buck, Boost, Flyback, battery chargers, LDOs, and loop stability/dynamics.
  • Experience with CAD and simulation tools such as LTspice, Simplis/Simetrix, and PCB tools (Allegro).
  • Familiarity with communication buses and protocols: I2C, PMBus, SPI.
  • Strong system-level hardware design understanding, excellent hands-on lab skills, organization, and communication.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% for customer support.

Education Requirements

BS or MSEE in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (as specified in the posting).
