Field Application Engineer, TCAD

Role Summary

Provide technical and sales-focused application engineering for TCAD products within the Digital Industries sales organization based in Tokyo. Use advanced product knowledge to resolve complex technical issues, support customer projects, and drive adoption of Mentor Graphics (TCAD) solutions.

The role is customer-facing, works with senior-level customer personnel, and supports business development within assigned accounts.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Provide on-site and remote technical support for TCAD products to customers.
• Analyze complex technical problems, evaluate variable factors, and propose effective solutions.
• Drive product adoption in customer projects and identify new business opportunities.
• Engage with senior-level customer stakeholders and align solutions to customer objectives.
• Prepare and deliver technical demonstrations, proposals, and training to customers.
• Collaborate with internal product, engineering, and sales teams; may mentor or guide junior staff.

Requirements

Must-have:

• Proven experience in field application engineering or equivalent customer-facing technical role.
• Advanced product knowledge of TCAD or semiconductor design tools (Mentor Graphics or equivalent).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex technical issues.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with senior customer personnel.
• Business acumen to translate technical solutions into customer value and sales opportunities.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience working with Japanese customers or in Japan; bilingual English/Japanese.
• Experience mentoring or leading other engineers.
