Field Application Engineer — Chengdu, China (Remote)

Role Summary

The Field Application Engineer will serve as the technical lead for Broadcom's optical component business for assigned optical module customers in Chengdu. The role partners with Business Unit and Sales teams to promote, validate and enable optical solutions including PAM4 DSPs, high-speed lasers (VCSEL/EML/DFB) and photodiodes.

Experience Level

Senior — requires 10+ years of progressive experience in the optical communications industry supporting semiconductor optical components.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on technical customer support, driving design wins, and enabling product qualification and optimization.

• Own full lifecycle technical support for assigned optical module customers in Chengdu.
• Align and execute local customer strategies with company product and business roadmaps.
• Drive design-win projects via cross-functional collaboration with Sales and Business Units.
• Manage day-to-day technical communications with customer R&D and engineering teams.
• Provide on-site technical support for debug, performance optimization and product qualification.
• Enable and validate customer designs through deep expertise in optical components and module integration.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.

• 10+ years experience in the optical communication industry supporting semiconductor optical component business.
• Deep understanding of optical communication systems and industry standards such as IEEE, CMIS, OIF.
• Proven experience with professional optical test instruments (DCA, scopes, BERT, Ethernet testers) for performance testing, calibration and fault analysis.
• Strong knowledge of optical module hardware, software design and PCB layout, especially DSP-related aspects and module development lifecycle.
• In-depth knowledge of DSP internal architecture; experienced in DSP debugging, optimization and performance tuning.
• Customer-facing skills with experience coordinating technical work across internal R&D and customer engineering teams.
• Willingness to travel frequently for on-site customer support.
• Nice-to-have: familiarity with data center architecture and AI network architecture.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Optical Communication, Optoelectronics, or a related engineering major.
