Failure Analysis Engineer
Role Summary
Work on Apple’s Failure Analysis team in Singapore to perform hands-on failure analysis during new product introduction (NPI). The role focuses on identifying root causes of electrical and physical failures and driving corrective actions with cross-functional teams.
Use advanced FA tools and methodologies to uncover failure mechanisms that improve product reliability and manufacturing yield.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires 3+ years of relevant failure analysis or electrical fault isolation experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform comprehensive failure analysis during NPI and development cycles.
- Conduct hands-on FA using tools such as X-ray, SEM, FIB, and cross-sectioning.
- Perform electrical fault isolation and correlate electrical and physical failure data.
- Investigate surface morphology and other material-related failure modes.
- Work with design, process, and test teams to identify root cause, develop simulations, and recommend corrective actions.
- Document findings and present clear technical reports to stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills:
- Must-have: 3+ years experience in electrical fault isolation OR 3+ years experience in physical failure analysis using X-ray/SEM/FIB/cross-sectioning OR experience with surface morphology tools.
- Must-have: Strong command of failure analysis methods and practical hands-on experience with FA tools.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of IC assembly/packaging design, processes, and testing.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with Auger analysis, nano-indenter, or process FA for semiconductors or optical devices.
- Nice-to-have: Interest or experience in camera technology/photography.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams; strong written and verbal communication skills.
Education Requirements
Degree or Master's in Materials, Chemistry, or Electrical Engineering (Degree/Master holder in Materials/Chemistry/Electrical Engineering as stated in the posting).
