Failure Analysis Engineer

Role Summary

The Failure Analysis Engineer performs root-cause analysis on failed semiconductor integrated circuits and electronic components across design, manufacturing, qualification, and field operation stages. The role provides technical feedback to design, process, test, product, and reliability teams to improve product quality and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

Perform detailed failure analysis using electrical, physical, and material techniques and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.

  • Conduct electrical, physical, and material analysis on failed semiconductor devices (magnetic sensors, power ICs, motor drivers).
  • Use analysis tools and techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM/EDX, FIB, OBIRCH, IR microscopy, X-ray, acoustic microscopy, and chemical decapsulation.
  • Perform electrical characterization and fault isolation to locate and identify failures.
  • Document procedures, observations, and conclusions in clear technical reports.
  • Maintain and calibrate failure analysis equipment to ensure accurate results.
  • Develop and implement improved failure analysis methods and automation where applicable.
  • Work on cross-functional teams to recommend corrective and preventive actions based on analysis results.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of product reliability and manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • Understanding of semiconductor device physics, IC fabrication processes, and packaging technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and methodical root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics and layouts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to present technical information effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is required.
