Work on integration of firmware, board-level hardware, and silicon for Ethernet PHY subsystems (200G/400G/800G/1.6T) within Intel's Custom ASICs Development Group. Collaborate with cloud service providers and internal silicon, hardware, firmware, and software teams to deliver IPU- and FNIC-based solutions that meet customer requirements.
Drive feature requests, develop solutions, perform system-level validation and debug, and deliver documentation and test plans for production and customer environments.
Experience Level
Entry / Early Career - the position requires approximately 2+ years of relevant engineering experience in SW/FW test environments and IP validation.
Responsibilities
Deliver system-level integration, validation, and support for Ethernet PHY subsystems and related platform components.
- Integrate software, firmware, board, and silicon components to meet system requirements and customer constraints.
- Design and execute lab tests and benchmarks using advanced test and measurement equipment to characterize performance and reliability.
- Debug issues across hardware, firmware, and software, and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Develop automated test environments and tools to support validation and regression testing.
- Prepare installation, operation, and maintenance specifications and technical documentation.
- Respond to customer requests and support integration of solutions in customer environments.
- Lead component-level tradeoffs and assessments for performance, cost, reliability, and security.
- Plan and run proof-of-concept lab experiments and simulate real-life environments for pre-production evaluation.
Requirements
Core technical skills and hands-on validation experience required. Preferred skills are listed separately.
Must-have:
- 2+ years developing software/firmware automated test environments and tools using Python, C, C++, Git, and shell scripting.
- 1+ years validating and characterizing IPs in standalone and full-chip environments, including results analysis and debugging using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and protocol analyzers.
- Hands-on lab test experience and ability to execute and document test procedures.
- Strong problem-solving, organization, and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with high-speed Ethernet PAM4 SerDes and 802.3 Ethernet physical layer technologies.
- Familiarity reading PCB schematics and low-speed IO (I2C, MDIO, UART).
- Experience with RTOS, firmware, device drivers, platform firmware, pre-silicon verification, or NVM configuration.
- Familiarity with Linux and system software stacks (kernel, drivers, user-space interactions).
- Advanced degrees (master's or higher) or equivalent practical experience.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field. Preferred: Master’s degree or higher. The posting allows equivalent practical experience; requirements may be met through industry experience, internships, coursework, or research.
