Entry-Level Systems & Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Microcontroller Systems Engineering Team in Austin supporting NXP i.MX processors. The role provides technical customer support, system bring-up, firmware and software development, and contributes to product documentation and reference designs.
You will work closely with customers, partners, IC design teams, and cross-functional groups to enable successful product evaluation, design-in, and production.
Experience Level
Entry-level - up to 2 years of professional experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on customer support, system-level debug, and development of firmware and demonstrators to support i.MX-based products.
- Become the focal expert for NXP i.MX processor products (training provided).
- Support customers through evaluation, board bring-up, software development, and system-level debug to enable product launches.
- Support use of NXP hardware platforms, reference designs, and software deliverables including U-Boot, Linux, and Android.
- Participate in product enhancement and the NPI process based on customer feedback.
- Develop firmware, drivers, demos, and application examples for multimedia, connectivity, and infotainment use cases.
- Perform feasibility studies and build reference designs, application notes, and developer documentation.
- Review reference manuals and data sheets; contribute to developer guides and ease-of-use materials.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required or preferred.
- Must-have: Experience with embedded Systems on Chip, especially ARM Cortex architecture.
- Must-have: Proficiency in C and experience using software debugging tools to view and program processor registers.
- Must-have: Embedded software development and debug experience, including one or more of: Linux, Android, kernel modules, and device drivers.
- Must-have: Technical writing skills for application notes, white papers, and user guides.
- Must-have: Ability to work with marketing, SoC design, architecture, validation, and applications teams to define and validate PCB reference designs and validation board hardware.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with multimedia and graphics technologies (OpenGL, 3D graphics, video decode, GStreamer).
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science. Master's degree preferred.
