Manufacturing Test Development Engineer I β 1st Shift
Role Summary
Work on design, development, validation, and optimization of electrical and mechanical manufacturing test solutions for ion implantation and semiconductor equipment production. The role partners with design, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and process teams to improve test coverage, reliability, and throughput.
This position contributes to new product introduction, production readiness, and continuous improvement efforts while leading small projects and mentoring junior technicians or interns.
Experience Level
Entry-level. 0β2 years of relevant engineering experience in test development, manufacturing, or related fields.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and validating production test systems, troubleshooting hardware and instrumentation, and improving manufacturing performance.
- Design, develop, and optimize electrical and mechanical manufacturing test solutions, automated test equipment, fixtures, and tooling.
- Validate and qualify test systems for robustness, repeatability, and scalability in production.
- Debug test equipment, instrumentation interfaces, sensors, and PCBA-level hardware; drive root cause to resolution.
- Analyze test data to find trends, systemic issues, and opportunities for process improvement using statistical methods.
- Define test strategies and requirements with cross-functional partners to improve coverage and efficiency.
- Support new product introduction and design for testability to ensure production readiness.
- Create and maintain test specifications, validation plans, procedures, and engineering reports.
- Lead small to medium projects including timelines, deliverables, budgets, and cross-functional alignment.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior co-ops/interns and technicians.
Requirements
Required technical skills and competencies for successful performance in this role.
- Must-have: Experience with CAD modeling tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD.
- Must-have: Understanding of electrical schematics, PCB design fundamentals, and debugging techniques.
- Must-have: Hands-on use of lab instrumentation (NI DAQ, NI PXI, DMMs, oscilloscopes, signal analyzers) and experience integrating automated test systems and fixtures.
- Must-have: Strong data analysis skills using Excel, Python, MATLAB, Minitab, or similar; familiarity with statistical process control methods (SPC).
- Must-have: Experience with fabrication and prototyping tools (machining, 3D printing, precision measurement).
- Ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and independently drive complex problem resolution.
- Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration skills; attention to detail and continuous improvement orientation.
- Nice-to-have: Prior experience in semiconductor manufacturing test development or new product introduction projects.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is required. The role expects 0β2 years of relevant engineering experience in test development, manufacturing, or related fields.
