Engineering Manager - Software Design
Role Summary
Manage a Hyderabad-based engineering team in the Platform Software organization with end-to-end responsibility for core microcontroller platform software and embedded security features. The role combines technical leadership, people management, and ownership of low-level firmware components that enable Silicon Labs' IoT SoCs.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Requires extensive embedded systems experience (12+ years) with at least 2 years in a formal leadership or management role.
Responsibilities
Lead a team to design, deliver, and maintain foundational embedded software and security for microcontroller platforms.
- Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing embedded software engineering team.
- Own design and delivery of peripheral drivers, RTOS integration, OS services, and system infrastructure components.
- Drive embedded security features including secure boot, image authentication, cryptographic APIs, and secure key storage.
- Ensure tight hardware-software integration and cross-functional enablement with product and hardware teams.
- Champion reusable, scalable software architectures and long-term platform health.
- Promote secure coding practices, code reviews, static analysis, test automation, and CI/CD adoption.
- Support lifecycle maintenance, product hardening, validation, and customer escalations.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and leadership skills; preferred items listed separately.
- 12+ years in embedded systems software development with at least 2 years in a formal leadership role.
- Proven expertise in embedded C/C++ and development for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
- Hands-on experience with low-level software: peripheral drivers, RTOS integration, and system libraries.
- Strong knowledge of embedded system security concepts and secure development practices.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Zephyr RTOS or contributions to the Zephyr Project.
- Familiarity with secure firmware updates, secure element integration, and trusted execution environments.
- Experience with fuzz testing, threat modeling, or static/dynamic security tools.
- Experience managing geographically distributed teams and exposure to industry certifications such as PSA Certified, SESIP, or FIPS.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
