Role Summary

Lead and grow the compiler engineering team responsible for Fractile’s compiler stack for AI acceleration hardware. Manage a team of 10+ engineers and drive technical decisions to enable industry-leading LLM inference performance.

Hybrid role based in London or Bristol. The team works closely with hardware, driver, runtime and ML engineers. This role may require eligibility checks for export-control compliance.

Responsibilities

Lead technical and people efforts to design, build and ship the compiler stack from architecture through early silicon.

• Build, mentor and manage a team of 10+ compiler engineers.
• Define compiler architecture: IR, lowering strategy, execution model and optimizations.
• Drive delivery from specification to simulator to early silicon and production.
• Collaborate with hardware architects, kernel, runtime and ML teams to meet performance targets.
• Implement and review performance-critical C/C++ code and compiler passes.
• Recruit, develop and retain high-performing engineers.
• Set technical roadmap, milestones and quality standards for the compiler stack.

Requirements

Must-have technical and leadership qualifications.

• Proven experience managing high-performance software teams and delivering production outcomes.
• Hands-on experience in compiler development; experience with ML compilers is preferred.
• Strong C/C++ skills and experience with standard development tools.
• Solid understanding of computer architecture and performance optimization techniques.
• Practical knowledge of machine learning workflows and inference performance concerns.
• Comfort making architectural decisions with incomplete information and operating in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to collaborate across hardware, runtime and ML teams and to hire and develop engineers.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with MLIR, TVM or other ML compiler frameworks.
• Experience targeting novel accelerator hardware, working with simulators or early silicon.
