Engineering Intern - Semi-automatic generation of models, stimuli and testbenches using AI agents
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
Engineering Intern - Semi-automatic generation of models, stimuli and testbenches using AI agents
Role Summary
This internship sits in an R&D verification team working on mixed-signal simulation (analog + digital). The intern will research, prototype and evaluate a semi-automated approach to migrate legacy behavioral models to newer technology nodes while producing associated stimuli and testbenches.
The work focuses on creating AI-based agents that assist model analysis, transformation, code generation and verification within existing simulation flows.
Experience Level
Internship / Entry-level. Position intended for current students (engineering school or university) - no specific years of professional experience required.
Responsibilities
Provide technical contributions to a prototype workflow and evaluate its effectiveness using measurable criteria.
- Analyze existing behavioral models to identify structure, parameters, interfaces and dependencies.
- Define a semi-automated migration methodology separating generic transformations from project-specific adaptations.
- Design and implement one or more AI agents to assist model analysis, code generation and parameter recommendation.
- Automatically or semi-automatically generate representative stimuli for verification of migrated models.
- Develop testbenches to compare expected behavior, detect regressions and validate consistency of generated models.
- Define and collect evaluation metrics: automation rate, generated code quality, test coverage, time savings and robustness.
- Document the solution, limitations, best practices and paths for industrialization within the verification flow.
Requirements
Key technical skills and personal attributes required for the internship.
- Must-have: Strong programming skills (ideally Python) and interest in automating technical flows.
- Must-have: Basic knowledge of analog and/or digital electronics and ability to read behavioral models and simulation results.
- Must-have: Good technical English for reading specifications and documenting results.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with hardware description or modeling languages such as Verilog, SystemVerilog, VHDL, Verilog-AMS or equivalent.
- Nice-to-have: Interest or experience with verification methodologies, stimulus generation, testbenches and assertions.
- Nice-to-have: Curiosity about generative AI, AI agents and automated code-generation/evaluation techniques.
- Personal traits: rigor, autonomy, analytical mindset and the ability to formalize reusable methodologies.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a degree at a university or engineering school in Electronics, Microelectronics, Industrial Computing, Applied Artificial Intelligence or a related technical field (engineering degree/Bachelor/Master or equivalent). Equivalent practical experience or related studies are acceptable.
