Job Title
Engineer, Systems Design
Role Summary
Design and develop electron-beam imaging products within KLA's Global Products Group (EBeam). The role covers system-level specification, characterization, integration and support of imaging subsystems including optics, detectors, high-voltage electronics, vacuum and machine control.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not state explicit years of experience but expects independent engineering work and hands-on technical ability.
Responsibilities
Contribute to system and subsystem design, testing, integration and customer support for electron-beam imaging products. Typical responsibilities include:
- Design and improve product subsystems: electron optics, imaging, detectors, HV electronics, vacuum systems, wafer transfer, optics, and UI/machine control.
- Specify software, algorithm and hardware requirements; lead characterization and product integration.
- Develop analyses, models and solutions for complex technical problems; set up and run experiments and tests.
- Perform hands-on testing and scientific data collection; develop scripts and tools for data analysis.
- Provide on-site customer support (e.g., Taiwan, Korea) with significant travel expected (approx. 75–90%).
- Attend required training at regional offices (Singapore, US) and support product maintenance and field deployments.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes:
- Experience with instrumentation, signal processing, and optical/electro-optical systems.
- Hands-on experience in machine control and/or scientific data analysis.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as MATLAB or Python for data collection and analysis.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to model systems and analyze experimental data.
- Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills; ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with vacuum systems, electron optics, and high-voltage electronics for scanning electron microscopes.
- Prior experience supporting customers on-site in Asia and working on semiconductor inspection/metrology equipment.
Education Requirements
Doctorate or Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Engineering Design, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. The posting also specifically references Dual Degree graduates from IITs (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Engineering Physics).
