Job Title
Engineer, SIG Equip Software Design
Role Summary
Develop and modify manufacturing equipment software and systems as part of a cross-discipline design team (software, electrical, control, mechanical). Implement low-level and application-level code, create design documentation, and support new product introduction and production teams.
Work primarily in C, C++, Bash, and Python on bare metal and RHEL-compatible Linux (containers). Role includes hands-on lab work with electronics and test equipment. May telecommute part-time.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Specific years of experience not stated.
Responsibilities

- Develop and modify embedded and system-level software for manufacturing equipment.
- Produce design documentation and software release artifacts.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, control, and operations teams, including NPI and Field Service.
- Debug complex systems and lower-level subsystems; perform root-cause analysis.
- Perform hands-on lab testing, integration, and validation of hardware and software.
- Improve existing designs to address manufacturing and production issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical abilities:
- Proficient in C, including low-level and bit-level manipulation.
- Proficient in C++ and familiar with the STL.
- Proficient in Python; experience with Bash and Linux-based development environments.
- Experience developing on bare metal and working in RHEL-compatible Linux containers.
- Ability to read and comprehend electrical schematics and provide design feedback.
- Knowledge of analog and digital circuitry, including power supplies, and how software interfaces with hardware.
- Debugging skills for complex systems and microcontroller-based subsystems; understanding of CPU and computer architecture.
- Familiarity with PCB layout and ability to identify components, signals, and planes for debugging.
