Job Title

Engineer / Senior Engineer, Product Engineering - NAND Validation & Characterization

Role Summary

Responsible for functional and design validation and electrical characterization of advanced NAND products using silicon and simulation platforms. Focus areas include test development, failure analysis, automation, data-driven validation, and applying AI/ML techniques to improve test efficiency, coverage, and debug productivity.

Works within Product Engineering (NAND Validation/Characterization), collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify root causes, drive issue closure, and inform release readiness.

Experience Level

Senior-level. For Senior Engineer, the role expects approximately 3–5 years of relevant professional experience. Engineer-level candidates may be considered where experience aligns.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include design, execution, analysis, and automation of NAND validation and characterization activities.

  • Design and execute functional and design validation flows for RG NAND devices on silicon and simulation platforms.
  • Develop deterministic usage-case tests and random sequence generators to validate NAND commands and customer-mode features.
  • Perform electrical failure analysis and root-cause investigations (digital and analog), and drive resolutions with cross-functional teams.
  • Characterize NAND performance metrics including timing and power, using current ONFI interface standards.
  • Conduct simulation studies using Verilog and Synopsys VCS to support debug and design verification.
  • Implement and maintain automation frameworks using C/C++, Python, and Perl to improve test development and execution efficiency.
  • Apply AI/ML techniques (data analytics, pattern recognition, anomaly detection) to accelerate failure triage, identify coverage gaps, and prioritize debug.
  • Use data-driven dashboards and metrics to track validation progress, defect trends, and release readiness.
  • As a senior engineer, plan and lead projects or task forces and mentor less experienced team members.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

  • Relevant experience in NAND Flash product engineering, device validation, electrical characterization, or silicon test/debug.
  • Working knowledge of NAND architecture, device operation, electrical parameters, and validation methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience in NAND test program development, debugging, and characterization using Nextest Magnum 5 and Magnum 7 ATE.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, and visualization; experience with C/C++ and Perl for test/automation development.
  • Experience with Verilog and Synopsys VCS for simulation and debug support.
  • Applied AI/ML experience for engineering analytics, anomaly detection, predictive modeling, or automated failure analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform independent, data-driven root-cause analysis and technical problem solving for NAND products.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • For senior hires: demonstrated ability to plan and lead projects and task forces.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related semiconductor-focused discipline.
