Job Title

Engineer - PDN

Role Summary

The Engineer - PDN will work within Arm's Solutions Engineering group on physical implementation and power-delivery network (PDN) analysis for SoC and CPU designs. The role focuses on implementation flows, timing and power optimization, physical verification closure and enabling partners to achieve high-quality silicon results.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” typically 1–2 years of relevant ASIC implementation or physical design experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform synthesis, DFT, floorplanning, place-and-route (PnR), clock tree synthesis (CTS) and optimization for CPU cores, interconnect and blocks.
  • Drive RTL-to-GDS closure for hard macros and full-chip builds.
  • Analyze timing, area and power metrics and propose optimizations to improve design quality.
  • Perform physical verification analysis (DRC/LVS/PERC/ERC) and layout edits for closure using tools such as Calibre.
  • Analyze timing with PrimeTime and implement timing ECOs for closure.
  • Collaborate with implementation and physical-IP RTL teams to drive analysis and optimization.
  • Convert R&D concepts into practical implementation solutions and enable partners to achieve quality of results.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • 1–2 years of proven experience in ASIC implementation, physical design, STA and timing closure, structured clock tree design, PDN analysis, DFM and physical verification.
  • Experience across top- and block-level synthesis, floorplanning, PnR, CTS, logical and physical optimization, timing closure and power analysis flows.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Proven programming and scripting skills (examples: Tcl, Perl, Python, Make).

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with Arm-based SoC architectures.
  • Experience with additional scripting/programming languages and data presentation tools (C/C++, JavaScript, R, Ruby, shell scripting, etc.).
  • Knowledge of low-power techniques (power gating, voltage/frequency scaling), Verilog RTL design, ATPG or production test flows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or another relevant technical field; equivalent practical experience accepted.
