Job Title

Engineer I - Software

Role Summary

The role develops and maintains timing and power evaluation software for Microchip FPGAs as part of the Timing, Power, and Modeling group. Work focuses on research and implementation of scalable algorithms for performance evaluation (timing and power) used for product sign-off and internal architecture exploration.

Experience Level

Entry-level. 0–3 years of relevant software or engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development and maintenance of tools and algorithms used for FPGA timing and power analysis.

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain static timing analysis software.
  • Model complex digital electronic components, including high-speed I/Os.
  • Develop solutions for very large graph representations and optimize memory and runtime.
  • Optimize architecture processing and analysis for performance and memory footprint.
  • Integrate capabilities into internal evaluation flows for future FPGA architectures.
  • Participate in R&D on advanced topics such as OCV, SSTA, and IR drop.
  • Perform design reviews, unit testing, and code reviews; own and sustain product features and provide customer support.
  • Follow software development processes and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • 0–3 years of related software development experience.
  • Strong C++ skills and a deep understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Tcl.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, structured problem solving, debugging and root-cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with secure, quality-focused development practices and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work with complex requirements, architectures, code, interfaces, tests, defects, performance, and security considerations.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with source control and issue tracking (Git, Bitbucket, Jira).
  • Exposure to parallel programming techniques (e.g., TBB).
  • Familiarity with FPGA architectures, AI/ML-driven applications, or AI-assisted development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering is required. A Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering is preferred.
