Engineer, Firmware Development (SSD)

Role Summary

Develop and validate firmware IP subsystems for SSD products to meet performance, endurance, capacity, functionality, and reliability requirements. Work within a cross-functional product team to implement, test, and qualify firmware throughout the product development lifecycle.

Experience Level

Entry-level (early career). The posting requests at least 2 years of experience in embedded systems development or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include firmware development, verification, and team collaboration across software and hardware domains.

  • Design, implement, and unit-test firmware subsystems for SSD products to meet technical specifications.
  • Develop firmware unit and functional tests to validate quality, performance, and functionality at integration milestones.
  • Debug embedded firmware (primarily C) and resolve defects found during development and integration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide accurate project and status updates to management and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to team development by sharing technical capability, improving processes, and mentoring peers as appropriate.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; where appropriate items marked as nice-to-have are listed separately.

  • Minimum ~2 years experience in embedded systems development or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficient in firmware/embedded programming in C and embedded debugging techniques.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multi-functional teams and communicate project status clearly.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with storage interfaces such as PCIe/NVMe.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with NAND flash and SSD-specific technologies.

Education Requirements

Master's or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience. (The posting specifies degree in electrical/electronic engineering or computer engineering and allows equivalent experience.)
