Job Title
Engineer, BAW R&D Process
Role Summary
The Process Development R&D team seeks a process engineer focused on physical characterization and metrology to support next-generation Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) device development. The role supports metrology development, implementation, and transfer into high-volume manufacturing.
The engineer will work with integration teams to develop measurement recipes, implement controls, and deliver data and analysis to ensure product performance and manufacturing quality.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Professional). Guidance: approximately 2+ years relevant work experience; recent graduates are also considered.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development and deployment of metrology solutions for acoustic device research and manufacturing.
- Own metrology development for BAW/SAW research and manufacturing.
- Develop AOI recipes, identify and classify defects for automated optical inspection systems.
- Create recipes and analyze data for Camtek bump height, F5x, XRD, XRF, ellipsometry, profilometry and other in-line measurement techniques.
- Design and implement metrology controls for new technologies to ensure product performance and quality in high-volume manufacturing.
- Collaborate with BAW integration engineers to meet project requirements and resolve technical challenges.
- Perform technical problem solving both individually and in teams.
- Transfer metrology implementations from development into high-volume manufacturing, managing project milestones and risk.
- Implement process monitoring, controls, and metrics for manufacturing processes.
Requirements
Core skills, tools, and constraints for successful candidates.
-
Must-have: ~2+ years relevant experience in semiconductor research or manufacturing (recent graduates considered).
- Direct experience with automated optical inspection (AOI) and defect identification workflows.
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DoE).
- Data analysis experience using Matlab, Python, Spotfire or similar tools; proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
- Scripting and SQL query experience for data analysis.
- Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and demonstrated problem-solving skills.
- Work authorization constraint: this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship by the Company.
-
Nice-to-have: Automated defect classification, machine learning for visual defect binning, experience with Camtek systems and advanced metrology equipment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Master's or PhD preferred. (Source also states recent graduates are welcome.)
