Job Title
Emulation Hardware Support Manager
Role Summary
Lead a global team responsible for deploying, maintaining, and optimizing FPGA-based emulation hardware across on-premises, cloud, and customer sites. Ensure high availability, fast incident resolution, and scalable infrastructure for emulation services.
The role combines technical ownership of hardware lifecycle and reliability with people management, cross-functional coordination (R&D, IT, facilities, customer success), and continuous improvement of support processes and automation.
Experience Level
Senior β leadership role. Typical background: 10+ years in hardware operations or related roles with 5+ years managing technical teams in 24/7 operational environments.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on team leadership, operational reliability, incident management, and process automation for emulation hardware systems.
- Manage, mentor, and grow a distributed team of Emulation Hardware Support Engineers; design on-call rotations and career development plans.
- Define and track performance metrics (e.g., MTTR targets, escalation rates) and run regular reviews to align team goals with business needs.
- Own end-to-end lifecycle management of emulation hardware: capacity planning, deployment, firmware updates, maintenance, and decommissioning.
- Lead incident response for critical outages (Severity 1), coordinate cross-functional resolution, and run post-mortems to implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, diagnostics, failure analysis, and a knowledge base to reduce downtime and repeat incidents.
- Implement monitoring and automation (system health metrics, firmware rollouts, log analysis, inventory tracking) to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Partner with IT, facilities, vendors, and R&D on data center optimization, vendor SLAs, field feedback, and customer-facing deployments.
Requirements
Key technical and managerial requirements. Education items are summarized separately under Education Requirements.
Must-have:
- 10+ years in hardware operations or related technical roles (equivalent practical experience accepted).
- Proven leadership: 5+ years managing technical teams in 24/7 operational environments, including on-call operations and incident response.
- Hands-on experience with FPGA-based emulation platforms and hardware diagnostics.
- Linux administration at a basic-to-mid level and familiarity with data center operations (power, cooling, security).
- Experience with incident management, root-cause analysis, and meeting SLA targets (MTTR reduction focus).
- Experience implementing monitoring, automation, and capacity planning for hardware infrastructure.
- Ability to coordinate with vendors on SLAs and component support; strong stakeholder communication skills.
- Willingness/ability to satisfy U.S. export control requirements where applicable (see Education/Requirements note).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with commercial emulation products (e.g., Veloce or equivalent).
- Experience with global compliance standards such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2.
- Experience driving predictive maintenance or cost-reduction initiatives for hardware fleets.
- Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure for hybrid deployments.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is stated as preferred. The posting also accepts equivalent practical experience (explicitly: 10+ years in hardware operations) in lieu of a degree. Export-control language indicates employment may require U.S. Person status or an export license.
