Job Title
Emulation Engineer
Role Summary
Work on pre-silicon verification and emulation for high-performance networking ASICs within the Core Switch Group. The role focuses on developing emulation test plans, synthesizable models, tests and automation to validate chip features and enable timely silicon bring-up.
This position involves close collaboration with architects, designers, verification, and software teams to achieve comprehensive verification coverage.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting indicates approximately 2+ years of relevant pre-silicon verification/emulation experience.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include defining test scope, building emulation models and tests, and debugging pre-silicon issues.
- Analyze chip architecture and micro-architecture to define pre-silicon verification plans.
- Verify design and micro-architecture using emulation platforms.
- Develop subsystem and chip-level tests using Tcl/ITcl, Python, and C/C++.
- Build and synthesize Verilog/SystemVerilog models for emulation platforms (e.g., Zebu, Palladium).
- Perform block, subsystem and chip/system-level debugging and root-cause analysis for hardware and software issues.
- Develop and optimize automation scripts and emulation methodologies to improve efficiency, reusability, and coverage.
- Create reusable synthesizable design blocks, libraries, and verification components.
- Build and maintain robust emulation environments supporting a global user community.
- Collaborate with Architecture, Micro-Architecture, Design, DV, and Software teams to meet verification goals.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes; nice-to-have items identified separately.
-
Must-have: Strong practical experience with Verilog/SystemVerilog, C/C++, Tcl, Python and scripting for automation.
-
Must-have: Solid verification fundamentals and strong debugging skills, including familiarity with assertions and coverage-driven verification.
-
Must-have: Experience developing tests and automation for pre-silicon environments and emulation workflows.
-
Must-have: Effective communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional engineering work.
-
Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with emulation platforms (Zebu, Palladium), traffic generators (IXIA, Spirent), high-speed protocols (PCIe, Ethernet), DPI transactors, or prior simulation-to-emulation flow experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience in pre-silicon verification/emulation of networking ASICs is specified in the posting.
