Emulation Engineer
BroadcomJob Title
Emulation Engineer
Role Summary
Work on pre-silicon verification of high-performance networking switch ASICs within the Core Switch Group. The role focuses on building, running, and maintaining emulation-based verification environments to validate design, micro-architecture, and system behavior prior to silicon.
Collaborate with architecture, design, verification, and software teams to develop tests, debug issues, and improve emulation infrastructure and methodologies.
Experience Level
Entry-level - 0β2 years of relevant experience (recent graduates with coursework, projects, or internships are encouraged).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include creating and executing emulation tests, contributing to synthesizable models, and supporting global emulation environments.
- Develop and run sub-system and chip-level tests on emulation platforms using Tcl, ITcl, Python, and C/C++.
- Verify design and micro-architecture using emulation systems and contribute to pre-silicon test plans.
- Build and synthesize Verilog/SystemVerilog-based models for emulation (e.g., Zebu, Palladium).
- Participate in block, sub-system, and chip/system-level debugging and root-cause analysis for hardware and software issues.
- Write and maintain automation scripts and emulation methodologies to improve efficiency and reuse.
- Create reusable synthesizable design blocks, libraries, and verification components for emulation.
- Support and maintain robust emulation environments for a global user community.
- Collaborate with Architecture, Micro-Architecture, Design, DV, and Software teams to achieve verification coverage.
Requirements
Core technical skills and interpersonal abilities expected for the role.
Must-have
- Foundational knowledge or hands-on academic/internship experience in Verilog/SystemVerilog, C/C++, Tcl, Python, and scripting for automation.
- Practical experience with pre-silicon verification, emulation, or simulation workflows (academic or internship experience acceptable).
- Developing debugging skills and familiarity with verification concepts such as assertions and basic coverage ideas.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills; ability to collaborate across disciplines in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-have
- Exposure to emulation platforms (Zebu, Palladium) and traffic generators (IXIA, Spirent).
- Familiarity with high-speed interface protocols such as PCIe and Ethernet.
- Experience with DPI transactors, coverage-driven verification, or similar advanced verification techniques.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; targeted for candidates with 0β2 years of experience in pre-silicon verification, emulation, or ASIC simulation. Recent graduates with relevant coursework, academic projects, or industry internships are encouraged to apply.
