Job Title
Emulation and FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design, build and bring up FPGA prototypes for next-generation GPUs and SoCs on standard prototyping platforms. Work with RTL teams to make designs FPGA-friendly, complete synthesis/place-and-route, generate bitstreams, and perform lab bring-up and customer support.
The role requires cross-functional coordination with architects, designers, verification, and software teams to deliver stable prototypes and resolve issues across geographies.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Specific years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
The core responsibilities include:
- Make RTL FPGA-friendly, partition designs and implement synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure.
- Generate bitstreams and perform board bring-up and validation.
- Debug prototypes using lab FPGA debug methodologies and equipment.
- Define prototype configurations, develop or modify infrastructure, and verify design correctness.
- Support internal and external customers with prototype releases and problem resolution.
- Coordinate with architects, designers, verification engineers, and software teams to resolve integration issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Experience with FPGA prototyping tools such as Protocompiler, Synplify Premier, and Vivado; exposure to various FPGA devices.
- Knowledge of backend FPGA flows: synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure.
- Exposure to ASIC design and verification tools (e.g., VCS or equivalent simulation tools, debug tools like Verdi, GDB).
- Proficiency in Verilog and SystemVerilog and strong digital design fundamentals.
- Proven debugging and problem-solving skills, including lab FPGA debug methods (Protocompiler debug, ChipScope, SignalTap, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with lab debug equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Nice-to-have:
- Scripting experience (Perl, shell, Tcl).
- Experience with system/SOC/full-chip level verification.
- Experience with hardware emulation/prototyping platforms (Synopsys HAPS, Zebu, Cadence Protium, Palladium, Mentor Veloce).
Education Requirements
BS or MS degree, or equivalent practical experience. No specific field of study or certifications were specified in the posting.
