Embedded Solutions Intern

Role Summary

Work on embedded microprocessor features of FPGA-SoC devices as part of the Embedded Solutions team within Software Engineering. Implement FPGA designs and embedded software, prototype on development kits, and collaborate with silicon, CAD tool, applications engineering, and product planning teams to deliver customer-facing solutions.

Experience Level

Entry-level intern / student position. Targeted at candidates with at least 3+ months of relevant coursework or project experience in digital design or embedded systems.

Responsibilities

The intern will contribute to both hardware and software tasks across customer solutions.

  • Implement and test FPGA designs and embedded software features.
  • Develop and debug low-level firmware in C; work on integration with hardware.
  • Prototype and validate designs using physical development kits.
  • Collaborate with silicon design, CAD tool teams, applications engineering, and product planning.
  • Document design decisions, test results, and troubleshooting steps.

Requirements

Must-have skills and attributes.

  • Programming experience in C; familiarity with C++, Python, or Java. Preference for low-level C programming.
  • Practical exposure to digital design, including Verilog or similar HDL.
  • About 3+ months of relevant coursework or project experience in embedded systems or digital design.
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Eligible for any required Canada export authorizations.
  • Availability for a fixed-term student/intern placement.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Intel/Altera FPGAs, hardware-software integration, or FPGA CAD tools.

Education Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related technical field.
