Embedded Solutions Intern

Role Summary

Work on embedded microprocessor-based features for Altera FPGA-SoC devices. Implement FPGA designs and embedded software, test on development kits, and collaborate across silicon, CAD, applications engineering, and product planning teams.

This is a hands-on internship combining FPGA RTL and low-level software development with practical hardware testing.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for students or early-career candidates. Expect 0–1 years of relevant experience; some coursework or short project experience is expected (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

The intern will implement and test hardware and software features targeting FPGA-SoC devices and support customer designs.

  • Develop and integrate FPGA designs and embedded software for SoC devices.
  • Write and debug low-level C code and support higher-level languages as required.
  • Implement RTL in Verilog and validate designs on development kits and hardware.
  • Collaborate with silicon design, CAD tool teams, applications engineering, and product planning.
  • Document work, present results, and iterate based on feedback.

Requirements

Minimum practical skills and attributes required for the role.

  • 3+ months of relevant coursework or project experience in at least one of the listed areas.
  • Programming: C/C++, Python, or Java β€” preference for low-level C.
  • Digital design experience in Verilog.
  • Hands-on willingness to work with hardware and development kits.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; self-starter who can work independently.
  • Eligibility for any required Canadian export authorizations.
  • Experience with Altera/Intel FPGA design through coursework or projects is an advantage.

Education Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelors degree such as Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a similar technical field. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable. Short-duration experience or coursework (approximately 3+ months) in relevant programming or digital design topics is expected.
