Embedded Software Engineer, Silicon Validation Firmware

Role Summary

Develop and optimize embedded firmware and low-level systems software for AR/VR and wearable devices. Work on device drivers, connectivity protocols, hardware bring-up, and performance/power optimization within a cross-functional hardware/software team.

Experience Level

Senior - requires substantial industry experience; posting specifies 7+ years of software development experience (or a PhD option detailed under Education Requirements) and 3+ years of embedded software experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include designing, implementing, integrating, and debugging firmware across the stack.

• Design and implement system software components: kernel-level code, synchronization, memory management, I/O, persistence, and security.
• Develop high-performance drivers and services for constrained environments, supporting low-latency and high-bandwidth data paths.
• Lead hardware bring-up, silicon integration, peripheral drivers, and communication interfaces.
• Drive power and performance analysis and optimization across firmware and system software.
• Debug complex, multi-component system issues spanning kernel to application layers.
• Integrate components from partner teams into a unified product codebase and support ongoing development.
• Analyze, design, and debug firmware for sensing/imaging systems, haptics, and audio prototypes.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software development experience in industry settings.
• 3+ years of embedded software development experience in industry settings.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and working in large-scale code bases.
• Experience defining technical work streams and providing technical leadership to engineering teams.
• Experience with hardware/firmware co-development, driver development, and system bring-up.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience across the full silicon development life cycle from design to mass production.
• Experience in embedded development for consumer electronic products and constrained/high-throughput systems.
• Familiarity with responsible AI practices and using AI tools to optimize workflows.

Education Requirements
