Job Title

Embedded Software Developer – Ethernet APIs

Role Summary

Design, implement, and maintain OS-agnostic C APIs for Ethernet PHYs and switches used in automotive and industrial products. Work on low-level embedded software, networking features, functional safety, and developer-facing interfaces to enable robust long-term platform support.

Join an API team collaborating with chip design, systems engineering, validation, and product groups to deliver MISRA-compliant code and automated verification in a regulated environment.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically 5+ years of applicable embedded-software experience (networking or communications preferred).

Responsibilities

Main technical responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain clean, extensible C APIs for Ethernet PHYs and switches.
  • Implement and verify advanced features such as auto-negotiation, QoS, IEEE 1588/PTP time-stamping, MACsec, traffic shaping, and policing.
  • Ensure API compatibility, maintainability, and backward compatibility across releases.
  • Develop MISRA-compliant, readable, and maintainable C code and contribute to automated test infrastructure and API validation strategies.
  • Work within ASPICE and other automotive quality/process frameworks and applicable safety standards.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement of development processes and tooling.
  • Use modern development tools, including AI-assisted engineering tools, responsibly to improve productivity, testing, and documentation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

  • Strong proficiency in C and embedded software development.
  • Experience developing software for embedded systems, preferably in networking or communications.
  • Experience working in regulated environments with demanding safety, quality, or reliability requirements.
  • Structured, analytical approach to solving complex technical problems and ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Ethernet switch SoCs, PHYs, IEEE 802.1Q, Layer 2 forwarding, QoS, TSN, or time-sensitive networking.
  • Familiarity with MISRA, ASPICE, ISO 26262, IEC 62443, or other safety and security standards.
  • Experience with Git, CMake, Ruby, Linux (user or kernel space), API design, automated testing, CI, or software tooling.
  • Participation in standardization bodies or Ethernet working groups.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools with attention to code review, security, IP, and verification.

Education Requirements

Relevant technical education is expected (degree or equivalent practical experience). The role typically expects five or more years of applicable industry experience.
