Embedded Software Co-Op

Role Summary

Join the System-on-Chip (SoC) Firmware team in Vancouver as a co-op (September–March) supporting the Software and Digital Platforms Group. You will work on embedded firmware for ASIC/SoC products, contributing to design, verification, performance analysis, and tooling alongside experienced engineers.

Experience Level

Entry-level co-op/internship for current students; no specific years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

The co-op will contribute to firmware development, verification, and tooling for ASIC/SoC products:

  • Participate in software design and development cycles for embedded firmware.
  • Develop and execute test cases to verify software and ASIC implementations meet requirements.
  • Run hardware and software simulations on emulation platforms.
  • Perform performance profiling and analysis.
  • Develop support tools and utilities to streamline design and verification.
  • Actively participate in the SoC FW team design process and reviews.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Familiarity with standard C/C++ compilers and integrated development environments.
  • Experience developing firmware or software for embedded products.
  • Proficiency in C and/or C++ with solid engineering and software development practices.
  • Good understanding of operating system and RTOS concepts and use of Linux as an embedded OS.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; proactive, can-do attitude.

Preferred:

  • Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and standard lab equipment.
  • Experience using Linux as a development environment.
  • Familiarity with industry tools such as Git, vi, gdb.
  • Familiarity with protocols such as IP, TCP/UDP, Ethernet, SWD, I2C, UART.

Education Requirements

Co-op students in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (co-op/academic enrollment expected).
