Job Title

Embedded SoC Architect

Role Summary

Senior SoC architect in the Adaptive Embedded Computing Group responsible for defining next-generation adaptive and embedded SoC architectures. Work spans embedded computing, AI/ML, data center, communications, automotive, and aerospace applications.

Collaborate with customers, partners, product planning, SoC/IP architects, and design and verification teams to define modular, low-power, cost-optimized processor, accelerator, I/O and memory subsystem architectures for chiplet, monolithic, or 3D form factors. Hybrid role based in San Jose, CA.

Experience Level

Senior-level (posting describes a Senior SoC Architect). No explicit years of experience provided.

Responsibilities

Define and drive SoC-level architecture, tradeoffs, and implementation guidance across processor, accelerator, memory and I/O subsystems.

  • Define architectures for embedded processor subsystems, NoC, memory controllers, FPGA fabric, and I/O interfaces.
  • Create flexible, modular subsystem architectures deployable as chiplet, monolithic, or 3D designs.
  • Work with customers and cross-functional teams to scope requirements, analyze performance/power/area (PPA) tradeoffs, and set architectural requirements and schedules.
  • Define hardware, firmware, and software interactions between embedded subsystems, accelerators, and external CPUs.
  • Author clear architecture specifications and guide pre-silicon design/verification and post-silicon validation activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and constraints; preferred items listed separately.

  • Proven experience architecting SoCs that integrate processors, accelerators, memory, and I/O subsystems.
  • Deep understanding of processor cores and how to integrate cores with interconnects and I/O (experience with x86, RISC-V, or ARM is expected).
  • Familiarity with I/O protocols such as PCIe and Ethernet and DDR memory integration.
  • Ability to analyze PPA tradeoffs and set architecture targets to meet product and schedule goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to author specifications and work across engineering and product teams.
  • Authorization to work in the United States; this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with ARM processors and AXI interconnects.
  • Knowledge of FPGA and AI/ML accelerator integration.
  • Familiarity with boot, security, debug, telemetry, and RAS features.
  • Domain experience in embedded computing, aerospace & defense, data center, networking, or automotive industries.

Education Requirements

BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (as listed in the posting).
