Job Title

Embedded Machine Learning & Radar Processing Intern - Summer 2027

Role Summary

Join NXP's R&D team working on automotive radar, edge AI, and perception systems. As an intern you will develop and optimize ML models and embedded software for radar-based perception on NXP hardware platforms.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Candidates must be enrolled in and returning to an academic program for the term following the internship.

Responsibilities

Work with multidisciplinary teams to implement, benchmark, and deploy ML-enabled radar perception on embedded platforms.

  • Develop and optimize ML/DL models for radar perception and onboard inference.
  • Benchmark and tune models on NXP edge AI SoCs and target hardware.
  • Build and integrate software components for a radar system proof-of-concept, from model to embedded deployment.
  • Use and extend embedded toolchains, IDEs, compilers, and SDKs for deployment and debugging.
  • Collaborate with teams across AI, signal processing, embedded systems, and hardware.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and relevant experience for an intern role.

  • Hands-on experience with machine learning and deep learning development.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Experience optimizing or deploying AI models on resource-constrained/embedded platforms.
  • Strong C, C++, and Embedded C programming skills.
  • Familiarity with embedded development environments (IDEs, GCC, GDB) and embedded Linux system integration.
  • Experience with benchmarking, model quantization, or performance optimization for edge devices.
  • Familiarity with Hardware-in-the-Loop testing and ROS/ROS2 is a plus.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with AI accelerators (NPUs, DSPs), FPGA emulation, or custom AI toolchains.
  • Good communication, technical writing, and collaboration skills.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related technical field; must be returning to school or graduating at the conclusion of the internship term.
