Embedded Architecture Software Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver the core embedded software stack for Ethernovia's networking devices used in automotive and edge systems. The role leads architecture, firmware, device drivers, testing and integration to meet performance and reliability requirements for safety-critical applications.

Experience Level

Senior — minimum 10+ years of relevant embedded software architecture and development experience.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end software architecture and delivery for device firmware and drivers, and ensure high quality through testing and validation.

  • Define architecture and implement embedded firmware, kernel/user-mode device drivers, and stack extensions.
  • Develop and maintain debug utilities, test tools, and automated unit/system tests.
  • Integrate firmware with host systems and expose hardware features via drivers and libraries.
  • Optimize code for footprint and performance on embedded processors.
  • Drive integration, verification, and system-level testing of low-level software.
  • Champion engineering best practices, code quality, and functional safety considerations in designs and implementations.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications and skills required to perform the role.

  • 10+ years of embedded software architecture and development experience.
  • Proven understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle, with emphasis on architecture, implementation, and testing.
  • Proficient in C/C++ (Python is a plus).
  • Extensive experience developing firmware for communication devices (preferably Ethernet) and embedded systems.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware interaction and embedded processors.
  • Experience with integration and testing of firmware and low-level code.
  • Strong skills in code optimization for footprint and performance.

Nice-to-have:

  • Simulation/emulation platforms and GNU/compiler/debug toolchains.
  • Experience with I2C, SPI, Ethernet, USB, SerDes, PCIe, NTB, SR-IOV, and related protocols.
  • Automotive or safety-critical systems experience using MISRA, ASPICE, ISO 26262.
  • Video processing protocols, mixed-signal or DSP experience, and bootloader (u-boot) knowledge.
  • Familiarity with version control and code review workflows (Git/Perforce).
  • ARM-family or similar embedded processor experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
