Electrical Validation Engineer
AlteraJob Title
Electrical Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Hardware Engineering team to define and execute electrical validation for advanced FPGA IO and mixed-signal architectures. The role focuses on laboratory measurement, signal integrity and standards compliance testing, data analysis, hardware debug, and silicon characterization to ensure products meet performance and production requirements.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early-career β minimum 2 years of relevant electrical or hardware validation experience as stated in the posting.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include planning and executing electrical validation activities, hands-on laboratory characterization, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve product quality.
- Define and execute electrical validation strategies for IO and mixed-signal interfaces, including signal integrity and standards compliance.
- Develop and run validation plans, test procedures, experiments, and analysis methods to characterize electrical performance.
- Perform hands-on lab validation and silicon characterization across varied operating conditions using industry test equipment.
- Evaluate performance against specifications, product requirements, and internal targets.
- Build and maintain validation infrastructure, test environments, and measurement setups.
- Analyze validation data to identify trends, margins, anomalies, and potential production impacts.
- Perform electrical debug and triage; identify root causes and work with teams to resolve issues.
- Support DFT/DFM considerations for validation and production test strategies.
- Prepare validation documentation, technical reports, and present findings to stakeholders.
- Investigate customer returns, failures, and test escapes to improve yield and product quality.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications are listed first; preferred skills follow.
- Must-have: 2+ years of experience in electrical validation, hardware validation, silicon validation, electrical characterization, or a related field.
- Experience developing and executing hardware/electrical test plans, procedures, and experiments.
- Hands-on experience with electrical laboratory equipment and test instruments (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers) and analyzing test data.
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging electrical or hardware issues, identifying root causes, and communicating technical findings.
- Strong fundamentals in analog and digital circuit behavior and measurement techniques.
- Nice-to-have: Experience validating high-speed IO, mixed-signal circuits, datacom interfaces, or silicon bring-up.
- Familiarity with signal integrity concepts (eye diagrams, jitter, noise, crosstalk, margins) and industry high-speed protocols.
- Experience with automated test environments and scripting or programming for test automation and data analysis (Python, MATLAB, Perl, etc.).
- Knowledge of DFT/DFM, PCB schematic capture, simulation tools, or electrical design environments.
- Exposure to FPGA/ASIC product development and system-level debugging.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (as listed under Minimum Qualifications).
