Electrical Design Engineer (R&D)
Role Summary
Design and integrate electrical and electro-mechanical systems for advanced semiconductor inspection equipment within the LS‑SWIFT R&D team. Work across hardware, firmware, suppliers and manufacturing to deliver reliable, safe and manufacturable products.
The role focuses on electrical architecture, schematics/PCBA, power distribution, control systems, integration, verification and production readiness for capital equipment used in semiconductor fabs.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include system design, integration, validation and production support.
- Design, develop and integrate electrical and electro-mechanical systems for new products and enhancements.
- Define electrical architecture, power distribution and control system interfaces.
- Develop and review electrical schematics, PCBAs, wiring, cable assemblies and interconnects.
- Support system bring-up, debugging, troubleshooting, characterization and validation.
- Create and execute test plans for system and subsystem verification (performance, safety, reliability).
- Specify, qualify and manage electrical components and suppliers; maintain BOMs and technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with SEMI S2/S8, CE, UL, IEC, NFPA and other applicable safety/regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with Engineering, NPI, Manufacturing, Quality and Suppliers to ensure manufacturability and HVM readiness.
- Provide technical support for product introduction, sustainment and field issues; perform root-cause analysis.
- Manage project tasks, schedules, risk, and stakeholder communication; identify continuous improvement opportunities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools and behaviours; preferred items listed separately.
- Strong foundation in electrical system design, system integration and product development for electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control panels, power distribution and cable assemblies.
- Working knowledge of industrial control systems (PLCs, HMIs, safety controllers, motion controllers, sensors, actuators).
- Understanding of grounding, bonding, shielding, EMC/EMI mitigation and machine safety requirements.
- Experience with prototype bring-up, validation testing, troubleshooting and structured root-cause analysis.
- Familiarity with DFMEA/PFMEA, failure analysis, reliability testing and product qualification methods.
- Knowledge of manufacturing considerations (DFM/DFA), obsolescence management and production readiness for HVM.
- Proficiency with electrical CAD/EDA tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Altium Designer, OrCAD, SolidWorks Electrical or equivalents.
- Proficiency with engineering and data-analysis tools such as Python or MATLAB.
- Strong written and verbal English communication, project management and cross-functional collaboration skills; willingness to travel internationally up to 20%.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in semiconductor equipment, automation systems, robotics, wafer handling or capital equipment development.
- Knowledge of fieldbus and industrial protocols (EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, DeviceNet).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related technical field. Role expects relevant industry experience in semiconductor equipment, automation, industrial systems or capital equipment development.
