Electrical Design Automation Intern – AI & EDA Automation
FormFactorJob Title
Electrical Design Automation Intern – AI & EDA Automation
Role Summary
Internship to develop AI-assisted design automation workflows for Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) engineering. The role focuses on using Large Language Models (LLMs) and Python to automate Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and create reusable simulation and analysis workflows.
Work involves software development, integration with EDA tools (e.g., Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS), and collaboration with SI/PI engineers to translate engineering requirements into automated simulation pipelines.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). The posting also lists a separate line stating "Minimum of 4 - 6 years of related experience," which appears inconsistent with an internship.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and implementing automation frameworks and demonstrating end-to-end automated workflows.
- Develop Python frameworks and libraries to automate SI/PI simulation workflows.
- Create structured data models to capture electrical design requirements and constraints.
- Investigate and implement LLM-based methods for translating natural-language requirements into machine-readable design objects.
- Integrate Python automation with EDA tools such as Ansys HFSS and Keysight ADS and with data analysis/post-processing tools.
- Build reusable components for simulation setup generation, parameterized model creation, design rule validation, and results extraction.
- Develop proof-of-concept workflows showing automation from specification through simulation execution and result reporting.
- Collaborate with Signal Integrity and Power Integrity engineers to identify automation opportunities and validate outputs.
- Document software architecture, APIs, workflows, and engineering use cases.
Requirements
Core skills and attributes required for the internship role, followed by preferred skills.
Must-have:
- Strong programming experience in Python.
- Basic software engineering practices (version control, modular code, testing).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Coursework or experience in Signal Integrity, Power Integrity, electromagnetics, or high-speed digital/RF design.
- Familiarity with EDA tools (Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS, Cadence, Synopsys).
- Experience with data science / machine learning frameworks, LLMs, prompt engineering, or agentic AI workflows.
- Experience with Git, Jupyter, NumPy, Pandas, and engineering automation tools.
Education Requirements
Posting specifies the candidate should be currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, or a related technical field. (No certifications or explicit "equivalent experience" language provided.)
