EDA/CAD Software Engineer
Role Summary
Work on Qualcomm's Global CAD team to develop tools, flows, and algorithms for emulation and other VLSI design infrastructure. The role focuses on building CAD solutions for synthesis, partitioning, place-and-route, and clock optimization, while optimizing compute and storage for large-scale flows.
The position involves hands-on software development, collaboration with design teams, and mentoring other engineers on the team.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting indicates a preference for candidates with approximately 2+ years of relevant experience (ASIC/FPGA design, C++ development, Linux, or CAD tool development).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing and delivering CAD tools and algorithms used in emulation and VLSI design workflows.
- Design and implement CAD algorithms for emulation: synthesis, partitioning, place-and-route, and clock optimization.
- Develop software components and customer-facing tools using industry-standard technologies.
- Optimize compute and storage resources for large-scale CAD flows and tool chains.
- Integrate and maintain toolchains and infrastructure used by design and verification teams.
- Collaborate with SoC teams to ensure CAD solutions meet design requirements and constraints.
- Mentor and lead other engineers on technical tasks and software best practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 2+ years of C++ software development experience, including software design principles and patterns.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Linux-based development and toolchains.
- Hands-on CAD software development experience and familiarity with CAD workflows.
- Demonstrable knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.
- Exposure to RTL synthesis (SystemVerilog → netlist), clock tree optimization, and general VLSI/logic design concepts.
- Experience with version control and engineering infrastructure: Git, LSF, JIRA, GCC toolchain.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills; ability to work independently and deliver customer-facing applications.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience optimizing compute/storage for CAD workloads and working with emulation toolchains.
- Prior mentoring or leadership experience on engineering teams.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field. Preferred: Master's or PhD in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
