Job Title

ECC Design Engineering Intern

Role Summary

Intern will support development and validation of ECC (Error Correction Coding) IP used in storage systems. Work focuses on FPGA-based system testing, RTL coding, simulation, and debug within the ECC/SSD IP engineering team.

Position is full-time (40 hrs/week), 6-month onsite internship in San Jose, starting immediately (Sept/Oct 2026).

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Suitable for students or recent graduates (undergraduate or master's level) with hands-on FPGA/RTL experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include system-level testing, RTL development, and simulation support.

  • Operate FPGA systems and collect performance data.
  • Write and maintain RTL code (Verilog/SystemVerilog).
  • Run and debug simulations using Synopsys VCS; investigate compile failures, hangs, and functional mismatches.
  • Manage design databases and version control using Git.
  • Communicate with designers and verification engineers to resolve issues and implement fixes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, work constraints, and workplace expectations are listed below. Preferred skills are separated.

Must-have

  • Hands-on experience with FPGA hardware and test systems (lab experience on Windows and FPGA systems).
  • Proficiency in Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • Experience running and debugging simulations (Synopsys VCS experience preferred).
  • Familiarity with Git for design/database management.
  • Good communication skills for team collaboration.
  • Reliable work ethic and punctuality; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Available to work 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, and commit to 100% onsite for the 6-month internship.

Nice-to-have

  • Scripting experience (Python, Perl, Tcl).
  • Understanding of ASIC/FPGA development flow from concept to silicon.
  • Experience with LDPC, BCH, RS, or other algebraic coding techniques.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree (completed or in progress) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. (Academic progress acceptable for internship.)
