ECAD Principal Engineer

Role Summary

Join the System-in-Package team to design, implement and support ECAD tools and processes for Arm's next-generation SoC and package development. The role focuses on tool and automation development, CAD library support, layout methodology, and cross-team coordination to improve design efficiency and manufacturability.

Experience Level

Senior - the role expects an experienced engineer (posting specifies 15+ years of relevant experience).

Responsibilities

The engineer will develop and maintain ECAD tools, automate data flows, support CAD libraries, and provide technical support across teams.

• Architect and develop automation for data transfer, validation and checking between teams.
• Coordinate with ECAD vendors on new requirements, problem reports and resolutions.
• Support CAD library development: create symbols and CAD library databases using Cadence APD tools.
• Develop and implement layout methodologies to improve efficiency and manufacturability.
• Perform layout development addressing DFM, DFA, signal integrity and power delivery networks.
• Provide use-model support and internal tooling assistance across the design cycle.
• Support product regression testing and customer/internal product support activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.

• 15+ years' recent experience using Cadence APD & Allegro (recent experience with V24 and V25 preferred), Siemens HyperLynx, Ansys and Valor.
• Experience with 2.5D and 3D package systems and implementing layout process improvements.
• Strong programming/scripting experience (examples: SKILL, TCL, Ravel, Codex, Python).
• Proven experience designing, developing and deploying custom tools in large layout installations.
• Demonstrated experience in product support, internal regression testing and troubleshooting.

Nice-to-have:

• Familiarity with Siemens Expedition, Calibre, Innovus and other layout/verification tools.
• Experience with SI/PI tools and early analysis to inform design decisions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for training and documentation.

Education Requirements

Electrical Engineering degree (e.g., Bachelor's) or equivalent practical work experience; equivalent experience accepted in lieu of a degree.
