E-core CPU Layout Design Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
E-core CPU Layout Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement physical layouts for Intel Atom (E-core) CPU products, focusing on analog blocks, digital designs, and memory compilers. Work within the Atom Layout Design team to ensure designs meet performance, area, and reliability targets for CPU products used in entry-level PCs, mobile devices, and IoT.
This role is eligible for Intel's hybrid work model (split on-site and off-site time).
Experience Level
Senior - requires 9+ years of layout design experience.
Responsibilities
Own and deliver physical layout implementations and verification for CPU components and collaborate with multi-site teams to ensure reuse and integration consistency.
- Drive custom layout design for memory compilers, custom IPs, and CPU partitions.
- Perform physical array planning, area optimization, and critical wire analysis.
- Execute layout verification: design rule compliance, SoC integration standards, and reliability checks (electromigration, IR drop, self-heating).
- Use and extend custom autorouters and placers; develop methods to improve productivity and quality.
- Collaborate with circuit designers to assess feasibility, provide feedback, and implement circuit enhancements.
- Troubleshoot design, tool flow, and methodology issues to ensure successful implementation and integration.
- Coordinate with cross-site teams on design strategies and reuse methodologies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (degree details summarized under Education Requirements).
- 9+ years of layout design experience for CPU or similar complex SoC products.
- Proficiency in VLSI and CMOS logic circuit design practices.
- Practical experience with layout verification flows and reliability analysis.
- Programming skills: UNIX shell scripting, TCL, and Perl.
- Experience using custom autorouters/placers and performing physical array planning and area optimization.
- Strong problem-solving and ability to troubleshoot tool flows and methodology issues.
- Ability to work across sites and collaborate with circuit design and system teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Proven communication and team leadership experience.
- Track record of proposing and implementing productivity or quality improvements in layout flows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics / Microelectronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline. The posting specifies a degree plus 9+ years of layout design experience.
