E-Core CPU Design Automation Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
E-Core CPU Design Automation Engineer
Role Summary
Work on physical design automation for Intel's E-core CPU family, focusing on backend flows and RTL-to-GDS standard-cell design for high-performance, low-power CPUs. The role sits on the CPU physical design automation team supporting block- and full-chip design.
Primary activities include developing and debugging automation tools and flows, performing physical design analyses, collaborating with design teams and EDA vendors, and producing documentation and guidelines.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early career - typically 2β3+ years of relevant industry experience in physical design automation, RTL2GDS flows, or related VLSI roles. See Education Requirements for specific degree-and-years combinations.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for the role:
- Develop, debug, and support tools, flows, and methodologies for backend physical design and flow automation (block and full-chip RTL2GDS).
- Perform analysis across synthesis, place-and-route, floorplanning, static timing analysis, formal equivalence, power, electrical rule checking, and reliability to identify root causes.
- Collaborate with design teams to reproduce and resolve tool and constraint issues.
- Work with EDA vendors to build and enhance tool capabilities for high-speed, low-power CPU design.
- Create and maintain documentation, guidelines, and specifications for flows and tools.
- Communicate technical issues and follow solutions through to completion with cross-functional teams.
- Leverage AI capabilities to improve operational efficiency and design productivity.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items follow.
- Experience with RTL2GDS flows and synthesis / place-and-route tools (practical exposure, typically 2+ years).
- Experience in VLSI circuit and logic design (practical exposure, typically 2+ years).
- Proficient scripting/programming in Perl, Tcl, and/or Python (practical exposure, typically 2+ years).
- Experience with UNIX and shell programming (practical exposure, typically 2+ years).
- Ability to analyze STA, power, ERC, and equivalence verification reports and debug issues.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills; ability to document flows and collaborate across teams.
- Preferred: experience supporting CAD/DA tool development and flows, and working with EDA vendors to extend tool capabilities.
- Preferred tools: Design Compiler, Fusion Compiler, Innovus, PrimeTime or similar industry EDA tools.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience (as stated in the minimum qualifications).
