Job Title

E-core CPU Clock Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and optimize clock distribution networks and related circuitry for high-performance CPU and SoC products. Work within the CPU physical design and clock-architecture team to enable timing closure, improve performance/power/area, and deliver production CPU designs.

Experience Level

Mid-level - minimum 6 years of relevant industry experience required; 7+ years preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement, and optimize clock distribution networks for high-performance CPU and SoC products.
  • Contribute to clock architecture development and clock tree synthesis (CTS) methodologies.
  • Perform timing analysis and support timing closure across complex designs.
  • Develop custom circuits, library cells, and clock-related design solutions.
  • Analyze performance, power, area, and timing trade-offs and recommend improvements.
  • Create automation solutions using scripting/programming to improve productivity.
  • Collaborate with architecture, design, physical implementation, validation, and EDA teams.
  • Support debug, validation, and optimization throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Drive technical issues to closure and influence future methodologies and flows.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Minimum 6 years experience in CPU clock design and CPU physical design/timing verification.
  • Experience with synthesis/APR flows for multi-voltage, high-frequency designs, including custom polygon editing.
  • Proficiency in Tcl scripting and automation for design flows.
  • Experience with noise, cross-talk, and on-chip variation (OCV) analysis.
  • Experience in floorplanning, physical design, and timing closure for complex CPU designs.
  • Familiarity with formal equivalence checking, DRC/LVS, IR and electromigration checks.

Nice-to-have:

  • 7+ years of experience with the above skill sets.
  • Experience with tools such as Fusion Compiler, DCT, DCE, ICC2, RedHawk, ICV, Conformal, Calibre, PrimeTime, StarRCXT, or Cadence toolflows.

Education Requirements

Required: BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
