Job Title

Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS) – Process Development, Dry Etch, NAND

Role Summary

The DMTS is the top technical authority for NAND dry etch process development, responsible for defining and transferring advanced etch processes, shaping equipment and hardware roadmaps, benchmarking against industry standards, and resolving the most complex yield, defectivity, and integration challenges.

The role works across Technology Development, Process Integration, and Manufacturing, engages externally with suppliers and forums, and mentors senior technical leaders to raise organizational capability.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typically requires extensive industry experience (approximately 15+ years) in dry etch process development and senior technical leadership.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, roadmap development, benchmarking, and complex problem resolution.

  • Act as technical expert for NAND dry etch processes, hardware, and applications; assess trends, capabilities, and integration risks.
  • Define equipment and mechanism-focused hardware roadmaps and drive supplier co-development for next-generation dry etch tools.
  • Benchmark dry etch capability against industry standards and translate external findings into internal advantage.
  • Resolve complex NAND yield, defectivity, and integration issues using expertise in plasma physics, surface interactions, and materials.
  • Represent the organization in cross-site and external technical forums and conferences; influence cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Champion and integrate AI-based solutions across the technical organization to improve process monitoring, defectivity learning, and decision speed.
  • Provide technical mentorship to senior engineers and lead multi-functional efforts, reporting critical updates to leadership stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical and leadership capabilities for immediate contribution. Preferred skills listed separately.

  • Must-have technical: Deep plasma physics/chemistry knowledge; advanced etch scalability expertise (high-aspect-ratio etch, tailored pulsing schemes); strong SPC and analysis skills; experience driving equipment roadmaps and supplier co-development.
  • Must-have soft skills: Enterprise-level influence, ability to mentor senior technical leaders, and strong executive communication and presence.
  • Preferred: Applied AI/data science experience for process monitoring, defectivity learning, and accelerating technical decisions; evidence of external recognition such as patents, publications, invited talks, or leadership roles in technical committees/consortia.

Education Requirements

PhD with 65;15 years, or Masters with 65;17 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related technical fields (dry etch experience). Equivalent practical experience considered where specified.
