Job Title
Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS) – Process Development, CMP, NAND
Role Summary
Senior technical leader responsible for defining and driving CMP (chemical-mechanical planarization) technology strategy for NAND products. The role sets the cell film process roadmap, leads cross-functional programs, drives hardware and supplier decisions, and produces high-impact technical deliverables.
Works across Technology Development, Process Integration, Manufacturing, and Equipment teams; represents CMP externally and mentors senior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior — requires extensive experience. Typical experience guidance: PhD with at least 15 years relevant experience, or Master’s with at least 17 years relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include technical leadership, process innovation, cross-functional execution, and mentoring.
- Serve as CMP technical authority for NAND technology development and define long-term technology and equipment strategies.
- Architect and drive next-generation CMP process innovation, including first-of-a-kind developments, recipe architecture, and integration alignment.
- Lead resolution of complex yield, defectivity, and integration challenges using deep CMP process, materials, and layout expertise.
- Define and execute CMP hardware and supplier roadmaps; translate industry benchmarking and external insights into internal advantage.
- Provide forward-looking technical leadership to identify scaling risks and drive proactive mitigation strategies.
- Drive cross-functional execution across Technology Development, Process Integration, Manufacturing, and Equipment teams.
- Mentor senior engineers and strengthen CMP technical capability across the organization.
- Prepare technical presentations, white papers, and patent filings; initiate strategic external collaborations.
- Integrate AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve efficiency and quality, following organizational standards.
Requirements
Must-have technical expertise and leadership skills for CMP process development and transfer to manufacturing. Degrees and formal education expectations are listed separately below.
- Deep expertise in CMP fundamentals: pad–slurry–wafer interactions, mechanistic slurry chemistry, and pattern density/layout effects.
- Broad understanding of multiple CMP process types: metal, dielectric, barrier/hardmask, and poly-Si/Si CMP.
- Extensive hands-on experience with advanced 300 mm CMP OEM platforms and driving hardware roadmap decisions to improve capability, throughput, and cost.
- Proven CMP process development experience in an R&D environment with demonstrated transfer to manufacturing (NAND, DRAM, or Logic).
- Strong command of statistical process control (SPC), data analysis, and process qualification methodologies.
- Proven ability to lead supplier technical reviews and head-to-head evaluations to advance CMP capability.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in complex problem solving and experience leading high-impact technical programs or projects.
- Ability to independently drive execution and influence cross-functional teams across process, integration, equipment, and manufacturing.
- Strong analytical, structured thinking and disciplined, data-driven decision making; clear technical communication, including executive-level updates.
- Record of technical contributions such as publications and patents.
Education Requirements
PhD with ≥15 years relevant experience, or Master’s with ≥17 years relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field. Publications and patent activity are expected. (Equivalent practical experience not specified explicitly.)
