Job Title

Distinguished Engineer, Power Architecture

Role Summary

Join the Applied Power Architecture team to define multi-generation perf/watt strategy across NVIDIA's datacenter, client, automotive, robotics, and edge-AI platforms. Lead technical direction for power architecture, influence silicon trade-offs and product roadmaps, and mentor senior technical staff.

Work spans architecture, thermal and system-level power management, ML- and workload-aware modeling, post-silicon optimization, and cross-team/vendor co-architecture.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires 18+ years of relevant industry and/or academic experience.

Responsibilities

The role leads cross-portfolio power architecture strategy and execution. Key responsibilities include:

  • Set multi-generation, cross-portfolio power and perf/watt strategy.
  • Own perf/watt goals across server, client, and edge platforms.
  • Drive performance-versus-power analysis to inform silicon trade-offs and roadmaps.
  • Lead co-architecture with silicon teams, vendors, IP suppliers, foundries, and packaging partners.
  • Architect thermal and system-level power management end-to-end.
  • Develop ML- and workload-aware modeling and post-silicon optimization methods.
  • Influence stakeholders across product teams and industry partners.
  • Mentor and develop the next generation of technical leaders.
  • Generate sustained IP and technical contributions.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills:

  • Demonstrated ownership of power architecture across several successful silicon generations (server, client/mobile, or thermally-constrained SoC platforms).
  • Deep, applied expertise in low-power and energy-efficient design techniques across the full stack.
  • Authoritative understanding of GPU, CPU, and accelerator architectures; high-speed interconnects; memory subsystems (HBM, LPDDR, on-die SRAM); and the system/OS/runtime/firmware/workload interactions that determine perf/watt.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing power and performance modeling methods, metrics, and tools for pre-silicon projection and post-silicon validation.
  • Experience defining requirements and architecting power solutions with internal teams and external silicon/IP/foundry/packaging partners.

Nice-to-have:

  • Ownership of power and thermal architecture in high-volume GPUs, AI accelerators, mobile/automotive/robotics SoCs, or large-scale server SoCs.
  • Experience in model-to-hardware co-optimization for ML, perception, or graphics workloads on power- or thermal-constrained platforms.
  • Background co-designing silicon with power delivery and cooling (including datacenter liquid/immersion cooling and passive/battery-constrained edge solutions).
  • Published research or production work applying ML to power/performance modeling, workload characterization, or DVFS/AVFS strategies.
  • Strong RTL, microarchitecture, or backend implementation experience and history mentoring engineers into senior technical roles.

Education Requirements

MSEE, MSCE, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
