Job Title
Director of Test – Silicon Photonics
Role Summary
Technical leader responsible for hands-on development, debug, and execution of wafer-scale and system-level test for Marvell's silicon photonics products. Leads a team of Optical Test Engineers and Photonics Systems Test Engineers and partners with ASIC design, AMS, packaging, and NPI teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Specific years of experience not stated; role requires demonstrated engineering leadership and deep hands-on test expertise.
Responsibilities
Accountable for end-to-end test strategy, lab operations, and team delivery across wafer-level and system photonics validation.
- Develop and debug wafer-scale and die-level high-speed optical and electrical measurement setups (56 Gbps+/lane), including BER testing, eye-diagram analysis, and S-parameter measurements.
- Author, review, and maintain automation scripts for instrument control and data processing.
- Own operation, maintenance, calibration, and roadmap for wafer-scale probe stations; manage vendor relationships and continuous improvement.
- Lead data infrastructure for handling, archiving, and analyzing large-volume prober outputs.
- Support NPI by driving correlation between wafer-level test results, sub-system characterization, and system-level validation.
- Plan and execute photonics DVT testing for scale-up networking products and lead product test platform design for NPI, bring-up, and reliability assessment.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of optical and photonics systems test engineers.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with ASIC, AMS, and packaging teams to improve device performance and test coverage.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and leadership qualifications; nice-to-have items noted separately.
-
Must-have: Direct, hands-on experience operating, configuring, and maintaining commercial wafer-scale probe stations (e.g., Cascade/FormFactor, MPI, or equivalent).
-
Must-have: Hands-on automation experience with Python (preferred), MATLAB, LabVIEW, or C# and proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, DataConductor).
-
Must-have: Strong experience defining and executing system-level test plans for transceiver products involving DSP/TIA/Driver with PICs and high-speed measurements (BER, eye diagrams, S-parameters).
-
Must-have: Demonstrated experience managing and growing technical engineering teams in semiconductor or photonics environments.
-
Must-have: Eligible to access export-controlled technology as required by applicable U.S. law and regulations.
-
Nice-to-have: Knowledge of integrated photonics, ray-tracing optics, or PIC design.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with vendor liaison for lab equipment procurement and calibration protocols.
